needs to have a very good amount of torque as i will be hauling a light trailer. probably needs to be able to pull 400 – 500 lbs if possible.

Right now there’s nothing on the market that is capable of doing this. Most electric bicycles are only capable of doing 40mph max, and electric motor motorcycles can handle highway speeds if they’re high-end. 400-500lbs is just too much A small gasoline engine may help you if you can mod it to kick in when you need it to. That way you can use the electric motor for low speeds/light loads, and the engine for higher loads.

It is very convenient for people who cannot pedal, due to some knee issues. I decided to check it out myself. Even though I had a wobbly start and could feel every bump, just like in a bicycle. It may sound too simple, but works:
You could invest in a long chain which you could pull through the spokes and the frame, and lock it with a big padlock.
When you park, wrap the chain around a lamp post.
Everything is woven through everywhere so thoroughly that nobody would have any chance of stealing it, unless they bring one hell of a bolt cutter.
